Are Smartwatches Reliable for tracking Body Vitals?

The year 2020 named itself in the history books. 2020 came with a bang and locked down the whole world. It was a scary, depressing, lonely, helpless, traumatizing year for a lot of families.

Many people lost their lives due to Covid-19. The deadly virus was attacking the lungs and destroying the respiratory system of the human body. A lot of people recovered as well but they must have faced the worst time of their lives.

Among those who survived might have tracked down the symptoms of covid-19. It was not attacking everyone. Those who were conscious about their body saved their lives.

Symptoms of covid were fever, cough, tiredness, low blood oxygen saturation, and diziness. Before covid, not many people were aware of Blood Oxygen Saturation levels but now, everyone has an idea at least.

Smartwatches with SpO2 sensors helped a lot of people in tracking Blood Oxygen Saturation but to what extent these Smartwatches are reliable when it comes to tracking the body vitals.

If you are in the market looking for a smartwatch that is reliable with its sensors, you need to take care of some things. Yes, Smartwatches are reliable in tracking body vitals.

Apple Watch, for example, has saved a lot of life because of its sensor. The heart Rate sensor on Apple Watch is so advanced and tracks the rhythm of heartbeat in real-time, 24x7. Any change in the rhythm will send an alert to you as well as to people in your family.

Not just Heart Rate, it is also reliable in checking the blood oxygen saturation. Technology is not said to be successful if it doesn't reach the masses. Not everyone can afford to have an Apple Watch Series 7 for the most updated sensor and more refined tech.

That's where things clashes but not anymore. There are affordable smartwatches from good brands that also offer you a reliable report after tracking body vitals.

Samsung Galaxy watches are good with tracking body vitals and also come with an affordable price tag. Even the best smartwatch under 5000 comes with SpO2 sensor, and Heart Rate Monitoring for tracking the basic body vitals so that person can take prompt action to save his/her life.

Basic Smartwatch Sensors for Tracking Body Vitals

If your whole purpose of getting a smartwatch is to track body vitals, make sure Smartwatches have these sensors for tracking.

1. Heart Rate Monitor

If you have a heart condition and looking for a smartwatch that can track your heart rate, make sure it comes with a heart rate sensor with real-time monitoring 24x7. From the bottom of my heart, I would recommend the latest Apple Watch Series 7 as it also comes with ECG. Apart from that, Samsung Galaxy Watch is also good to go. Most of the best smartwatch under 10000 also comes with a Heart Rate monitor but not all watches come with real-time 24x7 monitoring.

2. SpO2 Sensor

Covid introduced SpO2 to everyone who is not from the medical field or has not encountered with this term before. SpO2 tracks the oxygen saturation in Bloodstream. Low Oxygen in the Blood will cause you Short breath and you will find it hard to breath if the situation gets worse. The normal level of Blood Oxygen Saturation is 95% to 100%. Anything below this number can cause you trouble.

A smartwatch with a SpO2 sensor will help you in tracking Blood Oxygen saturation levels. A Pulse Oximeter can also do the job but Smartwatch is what you are looking for, make sure it has a SpO2 sensor.

3. Blood Pressure

BP is a global problem. Low Blood Pressure can cause you dizziness, unconsciousness, Fainting, Blurred Vision, and more. Not all smartwatches come with a Blood Pressure sensor. Omron is a big name when it comes to wearable products for consumers. Unfortunately, the epitome of the Smartwatch, Apple Watch is not capable to read Blood Pressure right now.

4. Fall Detection

This is the term introduced by Apple. Apple Watch comes with Fall Detection where it senses the hard fall and sends the alert to the family contacts. Fall Detection came in handy if your parents or grandparents are suffering from any kind of injury or health condition. At that time, god forbid, if they have fall detection, at least you will get to know about that.

Smartwatch is indeed helpful when it comes to tracking body vitals but don't go for the cheapest smartwatch as those watches add features just for the sake of it. There would be serious issues with the accuracy of those sensors.
